The online stakeholder meeting, organized by the Unione dei Comuni Tifernum (UCT) within the framework of the To CARE MED project, marked an important step toward promoting sustainable ecotourism in the UCT area. The event gathered 12 key local stakeholders, ensuring a rich exchange of insights on the current challenges and opportunities for developing ecotourism aligned with the project’s sustainability goals.
The meeting opened with greetings from UCT President Mr. Amoroso, followed by an introduction to the project by Ms. Zeffiro (Technical Assistance UCT) and was chaired by Mr. Ialenti. A structured questionnaire guided the discussion, allowing participants to share data, perspectives, and proposals for future actions.
Discussions revealed several critical issues affecting the sustainable growth of ecotourism in the area:
- Marketing and Tourism Product: Lack of integrated tourist packages, need for a shared territorial identity, joint promotion strategies, and diversification of offers;
- Sustainability and Event Management: Local festivals are important tourist attractors but often lack sustainable waste management and eco-friendly practices;
- Governance and Organization: The absence of coordinated governance, shared strategies, and an updated registry of accommodation facilities hinders coherent planning.
Proposals and Future Actions
Stakeholders emphasized the need for concrete actions to strengthen the ecotourism system, including:
- Conducting a territorial survey to map resources, challenges, and potentials;
- Developing governance strategies through a permanent coordination roundtable;
- Implementing sustainability guidelines and best practices for event management and waste reduction.
Conclusions
The meeting confirmed that the development of sustainable ecotourism in the Unione dei Comuni Tifernum area depends on improving promotion, governance integration, and responsible management of events and tourist flows. The insights gathered will serve as a foundation for defining the next steps of the To CARE MED project.
During the session, a stakeholder questionnaire (originally in Italian, available also in English) was administered to collect detailed input for further analysis.
